CONSERVE & EDUCATE
Mangalitsa Breed Organization And Registry (MBOAR) was founded on August 30, 2019 and launched on January 1, 2020, in the United States and is a non-profit organization specially established for the Mangalitsa breed to educate breeders, establish the registry and maintain the Herdbook for the Mangalitsa pig in the USA. International participation is welcomed!
Mangalitsa are threatened by the limited genetic diversity presently available in many of the countries of import, Canada, the United States and numerous European countries. The primary goal of registering purebred Mangalitsa is to use DNA as a determining factor in choosing parental pairs.
DNA IS NOT BEING USED AS A TEST OF PURITY AT THIS TIME.
DNA is currently only used for parental verification. MBOAR continues to work with the genetic scientific community to support viable purity markers and phenotypical marker development.
By leveraging the membership and registry information, members can take advantage of selective breeding for optimal phenotype and reduced inbreed percentages. This value transcends the members intent for breeding stock or meat production. Genetic vigor can only be achieved with lineage, phenotypical tracking, and collaboration.
